St John’s on-the-Hill Year 8 pupils Ffion, Wilf, Aidan and Anna placed in the top 5 in the country (out of 1260 teams) at the Young Mathematicians’ Awards Final at Cambridge University on Wednesday 9 January. The children had an inspiring day at Cambridge University where they met Bobby Seagull, the ambassador for the competition, in the lecture theatre that Professor Stephen Hawking regularly used.

Mr Matt Allen, Head of Mathematics said: “It was a fantastic competition, testing not only their mathematical ability but their teamwork and communication skills, something we strive for here at St John’s. It was such an inspiring day at Cambridge University and a special opportunity for our Year 8 pupils to experience a world renowned university.”
